Casino Games

A list of the best casino games you can play online. Read about the rules, learn strategy and tips, find the top online casinos to play your favorite game at and more!

We wouldn’t be covering every aspect of online gambling, if we didn’t talk about the casino games you might play as well. The online casino is the platform and experiences may vary, hence our casino reviews. But the games are the guts and bones and they’re the reason you’re playing at all (hint: never let winning money be your reason for playing).

Games are fun. They can be challenging. Some require skill. Others are exciting. All of them are, usually, entertaining. Throughout the following pages, we’ll be introducing all kinds of online casino games to you and how to play them.

But lets us offer you a brief introduction as well.

Types of online casino games

You will usually find casino games sorted into different categories. Handily, they tend to make for useful filter options when navigating around the games section at a casino. Not all will strictly make the distinctions we make here, but this is just an overview anyway.

Slots

Slots make up the largest number of online casino games at just about any casino you’ll come across. They include video slots, classic slots, 3D slots, and maybe sorted accordingly. Online Slots have themes, meaning they have a certain look. Popular are Ancient Egypt, Luck o’the Irish (the color green prevails here), Norse gods, Vikings (not the same), fairy tales, Sports, and anything to do with Asia.

Classic slots are also called fruit machines because fruits are the prevailing symbols on the reels.

Either way, slots are fun, can be volatile, can include massive jackpots, offer some stunning graphics (some, though not all) and elaborate soundtracks (again, some, not all). We’ll get into this more in our article about slots and will eventually introduce some of them to you.

Table games

Table games are modeled closely after their real-life counterparts. Whilst you won’t face a dealer, instead, the computer is looking after the gameplay for you, the setup of the games is very close to the real thing.

Popular table games are roulette and blackjack. Most online casinos offer a great variety of both. Baccarat is also a table game, as is Sic Bo or Craps. Both have real-life counterparts. The online versions aren’t always as fun as the real thing, mind you. Andar Bahar and Teen Patti are also table games. Any card game is considered a table game.

Live casino games

Here you’ll find the same games as in the table games section, but you are actually facing a live dealer when playing live casino, who is located in some studio somewhere and everything you do and watch on the screen happens live.

Poker

Poker can be played in various ways at many online casinos. Of course, poker also falls into the table game category and most casino poker games (where you might play Texas Hold’em alone against the computer) are sorted here at online casinos. But it still enjoys a special position.

Whilst you can play various versions of casino poker (Caribbean Stud, Red Dog, Casino Hold’em), playing against real players in a poker network is much more interesting. Not all casinos are connected to such networks. Mostly, you’ll find them at large casinos such as Bet365 or Betway, though.

There’s also Video Poker. A very popular way to play poker games. The rules are the same, but the mechanics are more similar to slots. You simply play a computer game, where the cards are dealt to you, you decide which ones to keep and win or lose depending on the next round of cards dealt. There’s no pot that will be raised, no other players are involved and it’s just a matter of playing one hand after the other. Video Poker is hugely popular because of its very low house edge.

Other games

There’s almost always also a category for other games. Here you’ll find games such as keno, bingo, scratch cards or games that simply cannot be categorized elsewhere. When we review a casino for you, we’ll usually also mention what other games are available there. Whilst these games are not necessarily the most exciting games or yield the best wins, they can be entertaining and offer some diversion as well.

Free play or demo play – What’s the point?

When you first visit an online casino and you’ll check out the games, you’ll notice that almost all of them are available to play for free or as a demo version. You may think that you only go to an online casino because you intend to play for real money and hopefully win some (again, fun should be your priority and not winning). So, what’s the point of playing these games for free?

Easy! You play any of those games for free to a) figure out how they work and b) to figure out whether you even like them.

Perhaps you have grand plans for becoming a poker pro, but have you ever played poker before? Do you have any talent for it? Or what about blackjack? That’s a game with a very low house edge and a skilled player can be the winner here more often than not. But without ever having played before and knowing the rules, you’ll be on the losing side of things.

Use the free play option. Just because a game has a massive jackpot, it may not be fun to play. We’ve played games with unassuming themes that turned out to be super fun. And we’ve played overly complicated slots that were only distracting us from the fact that we kept losing.

And if you want to learn how to bet on roulette or craps, how to play baccarat or blackjack, the demo versions are a great way to get started.

By the way, live casino games are the only ones you can’t play in demo mode.

Choosing the right games for you

Another reason we explain all the different kinds of games and how they work is this: to help you choose the right game for you.

Many casino players simply love to play slots. But not all slots are the same. If you rather wager a little money and win often enough to keep up your budget, you might want to opt for a slot with low volatility. If you’re a risk-taker, you may still not need to wager loads of money, but you can pick a slot with high volatility. We will explain the difference to you, which will help you choose the type of slot you might want to try.

And if you want to try table games, there are also a few things you should be aware of before starting to play. All the ins and outs and how-tos are what we are here for. Playing at an online casino is much more fun when you choose the games that suit you.
